Our Story: From Mentorship to Movement

It all started back in 1996, when this mission took root under the name Ref Right. The goal was simple: new officials deserve support—not intimidation. As a young referee working games in California, I saw how many rookies held back their questions, worried they’d be judged or dismissed by veterans. I was fortunate to have a mentor who changed that for me—and I made a promise to pay it forward.

With four fellow referees (who are still active to this day), we created a culture that valued collaboration over competition. We believed in lifting each other up, not tearing each other down.

In 2008, I took a leap. What if mentorship could extend beyond the court? I launched a simple webpage and started sharing educational content on YouTube—breaking down rules, mechanics, and real game scenarios. The response was electric. Officials from across the state were hungry for honest, practical guidance. When people began asking, “Do you have a website?”—C.O.R Academy was born.

Today, we combine 27+ years of on-court experience with modern technology to help officials grow their skills, build confidence, and stay ready for every moment the game throws their way.

This isn’t just about officiating. It’s about building a movement rooted in mentorship, integrity, and community.
